3 tiers on main page 2 tiers on others how can i

im finally turnign my site around, and making some headway here. i now have a question about site layout. by default, my site is split into 3 tiers: left, middle, right. on my main page, i want all 3 tiers to display. however, when users visit the forums i would like the site to switch into a 2 tier’d system, removing the left tier.

is this possible? right now, with 3 tiers, the middle is rather constricted for reading forums, so i would really like to be able to lose the left tier on visiting the forums.
