This is a bluehost question posted by 14erjohn on 19 December 2008
My account was suspended yesterday after running the same site backups for almost 3 years. I disabled the backups immediately and had to call customer service to have my site reactivated. I find this kind of policy rude at best, in total disregard to the customer at the worst. Why not fire off a warning email BEFORE disabling the account and allow the customer reasonable time to remedy the situation? The support tech alluded that the admins will disable an account immediately without warning if the account does anything to affect overall service… which I have no problem with. My problem is that storing some backups on their server for the website they host in no way affects anyone else’s quality of service. If I filled a filesystem by running backups, disabling web access to my domain would not have fixed the problem anyway.
I had no idea anything I was doing was going against the TOS… regardless, a little common courtesy goes a long way. I complained to Bluehost’s abuse dept and they just shot me a canned response reiterating the TOS.
Anyone else experience the same kind of treatment? I’m pretty ticked off right now and am considering looking for an alternative
