This is a bluehost question posted by hourcade on 20 July 2007

Today Friday the 20th of July at 4AM Utah time, one of my website and its four addon domains are down

I am told by the hotline that this is normal as there is an ongoing “defragmentation” (its equivalent for Linux servers) of Bluehost servers. Further, the technician indicates that that kind of maintenance happens “every couple of months” and that its lasts between four to six hours!!

I am a lay person but I find it hard to believe that Bluehost does not have some kind of parallel/backup solution on another server (server B?) when server A is maintained (the technician has indicated that Bluehost does not use “clusters”, a technology that could achieve that result).

So my sites are down and this is a real hassle . And it is high noon in Europe!

Apart from unexpected technical problems, I would expect 24/24 uptime from a reliable web hosting company. Is this too much to ask?
