This is a bluehost question posted by JokerHill on 23 July 2008

I’ve been attempting to apply various remedies as I’ve come across them in this forum but nothing seems to be sticking right now. This single main domain set-up I’m finding very difficult to understand. I have managed alternately to get one site working while the other goes down or loses its images. Then I reverse the order with tinkering. I have found no solution in the many pages on the forum, none that I can understand anyway.

My main domain folder I’ve found is recognized when I name it index.html and place it within the public_html folder. Within this index folder I have my main index.html page and the associated image files. I’ve created the pages in dreamweaver and have to keep all the site files in the same root folder or the images go missing. I got my main domain working once with this setup, though when I added the add-on domain and created a folder to hold its files also within the public_html folder it would not recognize the add-on site.

Do I have to modify the htaccess file for a workaround?

What is the proper way to set-up the file system for multiple domains?

I’ve attempted to hack the htaccessfile without luck. The file system seems terribly fragile and I’m at a loss as to how this all needs to be arranged.

At times the images won’t display despite the index.html file being located in the same folder as the images. At other times my page won’t dispaly outright and I’m greeted with an ‘index of’ page where I can click my files to access them. I never can get both domains accessible at the same time however. I’ve managed to get both working seperately for a time but never together.

Does anyone have a clear step by step solution to this issue I seem to be having?
