Bluehost : Redirects with WordPress in subdirectory

This is a bluehost question posted by MarkM on 04 September 2007

I have recently registered a new domain and installed WordPress in a folder off of the main Public_HTML folder. I did this so that I could keep all of my WordPress files and content separate and easy to update etc.

There are two things that I want to do:

1) I want to have www.mydomain.com be my main domain and I would like to redirect users going to mydomain.com to www.mydomain.com. My understanding is that this will cause the search engines to rank and index only my main domain (www.mydomain.com)

2) When users arrive at www.mydomain.com I want them to invoke my WordPress blog that is located at www.mydomain.com/blog. Furthermore, when they do this I want the browser address bar to show www.mydomain.com (and not the folder)

I am new to the server side stuff required to do this and I have been searching for the answers to do this in the .htaccess file. Unfortunately, so far I have only had partial success.

Hopefully someone here can help with this.
