Dedicated Servers : Some DiskSync Questions (Server Load, Updating, Overages)

Theplanet is the world’s most popular provider of cheap, fast and best dedicated servers at an affordable price and godddy is the leading domain name registrar for all the domains hosted on these servers.

This dedicated server discussion started by unixrules on 16 January 2006

I have 10G of DiskSync (using 25G~), and am setup to run the daily process at 3Am.

Although I’m asleep at 3-5Am in the morning, I’ve been getting complaints from my European users that the Server is unavailable to them during this time period. Since this is a daily complaint, it’s pretty obvious that DiskSync is killing the server performance during this time window.

My exclusions have been /dev, /mnt, /proc, /tmp, /var/tmp, but since my stats directory is kinda big (2.1G) I’ve now just added /usr/local/apache/domlogs to the exclusion list. (Compress file date is set to “Better”.)

- Do you think adding this exclusion will help much?

- Does clicking on the Synchronize button in the DiskSync Agent Console get this tweak activated for next backup run?

- Any tips for reducing the backup size/CPU load for the processing?

Another question is that I’m paying for 10G of DiskSync, but have realized that is no longer enough, my graph in Orbit says I’m running as much as 25G. Will I save money by bumping my coverage to 25G, so I’m not “overaging” my allotment?
