Honestly I just couldn’t think of a title or icon its neither negative or all positive, hey some things have a combination of both.
I have been doing hosting for about 6 years and on a dedicated for about 4 years, currently my “current” dedicated with a crappy server is just going down hill, my partner on my server has decided to retire honestly I dont blame her this will be our “third move” on a dedicated server, I’m all for it I don’t mind my job being a host.
Well after 6 hours of chatting with various of different companies offering fully managed servers, my options were narrowed down to Gator and two others (gonna keep my lips sealed here lol). In the end my final decision was more based on how well the chat went, how well my questions were answered and yes some based on reputation Gator does have a higher reputation (again I been around six years I have known of Gator for at least two).
The one thing that really finalized my decision was I was shocked how many companies not willing to help with installing extras like Billing systems, RV Skin, helping with configurations if your a little slow like me, this weighed my decision heavily with Gator. And finally because you use the Planet server, trust me…. After the last server I just have to have a Planet server.
I wish I could say my ordering process went smoothly it did not, I think the staff is suffering spring fever apparently things just was not as organized overall. I do have to say though I think the ordering process (for me anyhow for a dedicated) was very confusing I was a little unsure, while on the web site it did say “Will process and deliver server in 12 hours” sure caught my eye I needed a server NOW! After making my order got email saying it will take 24 hours to process my order…. Um ok… I’m willing to wait, why? Because that billing system really looks good I been manually billing 85 clients now for over two years and I’m getting a little slow here I NEED that billing system! So 12 hours pass I’m still waiting on an email to say something, anything, nothing…. “sighs”
So come 14 hours later I finally send off email to support to say I want to order back up server, have billing installed, and so forth. It was now I realize that I’m suppose to send in verification document with my order enable for Gator to process my order…. Why wasn’t this sent to me at the time I ordered or paid on my order? Ok so now I’m not happy because even I know its going to take yet another 12 hours to process this server and let us not forget the DNS change the IP alone takes another 12 hours at least……. Ok so I get my stuff and its verified I’m happy there is hope I’m gonna get my clients off the old server before it totally dies (seriously the old server is just bad I mean BAD)
Then I email asking how much longer do they think it’s gonna take to process the order, reply was 48 hours, I gotta be honest folks I think my jaw hit the floor and I cracked my chin chin.
Now I’m not happy my clients are all bawling their eyes out I’m trying hard to be cool, believe me I’m pretty patient and handle stress well at least for awhile ha, and the server goes down, oh my! and now I’m finding out we might not get off the old server until Thursday, this is not good we might not be available by Thursday…. So I push techs on my old server to get my server back up while I’m totally freaking out I may lose all my clients and the old server all together waiting for my order, I had no choice but to email the billing/support staff of Gator to tell them this is not good, and I have to have a server now. The email was nice but I needed honesty if they couldn’t get it done by Tuesday night I would need to immediately start seeking someone that can.
I am proud to announce that Gator not only replied to my begging and pleading but got my server completed Monday evening, one day early from my absolute request! For that I am forever grateful and thankful really I am you really saved the day for me, even though I woke up this morning sicker than a dog with a sore throat and nasty cold, but hey it still made my day! So I am now prepping my server and prepping my clients we are all having a party here we are getting ready to move to Gator… That billing still looks good now I just gotta get you guys to install it.
I would have to say though that the responses of Gator and the techs have been good but the process wise of getting my dedicated ready - um not so good, again I think they are suffering spring fever moving a little slow there. I might add that I think Gator needs to be more detailed in the “Thank you for your order” email or have someone immediate send out email stating verification “may be needed” especially for a new client so that we can certainly have the option to speed up our order process. That part alone I must say is my biggest complaint. Otherwise everything else was good, the staff is good, the chat, the emails I have even called and that is good.
So thank you Gator, again, I am glad you were able to help me in my needs and looking forward to my Planet made server and your services
