I just moved my domain here from pronicsolutions because while they offer great, steady service, the storage limitations were very low.

I have not searched for a hosting service in ~5 years, and I was very surprised to see all of the ridiculous, unrealistic promises most companies offer for such a ridiculous rate. I knew that bandwidth and storage was getting cheaper but it’s still -shared- hosting.

After digging around and saving myself from signing up with hostmonster, I found hostgator. I read a website that has a tech forum where a guy posted about this service and how candid the owner is about their policies and the state of the hosting industry on his blog.

I read the (5)blog entries about “gator politics” and immediately signed up. Being honest goes a long way.

Back the the main reason I moved.

I wanted to set up an image gallery because flickr and all of the other garbage free services make you size your image down in some way, and their layouts are crap, slow, etc. Gallery takes up 80megs of space by default, which consumed 1/3rd of my space on my old site.

The gallery I’m creating is very important and space can’t be an issue. My best friend, a life long friend I met in 9th grade, passed away suddenly over the christmas holidays and I wanted a place to store images to document the loss, his life, and help his family and I hang on to some memories of him in an easily, remotely accessible manner.

Because of the generous space and php memory allocation, it made my dream possible and working on the image gallery daily, putting time into organizing it and making it look like I want has been very therapeutic for me and has helped his family and myself greatly.

I just hope that the service continues to be great, and the owners and employees continue to show admirable candour when talking about their policies and reasons for doing things.
