How do I upload .gif files to cpanel?

How do I upload .gif (animation) files into cpanel? i have tried to but it doesn’t register as an image file it only shows it as a text file in “Type”

I have a template with Joomla 1.5 and I am currently building my site, everything is uploading as it should except for the animation.
