PhpWiki Web Hosting
PhpWiki is wiki software written in PHP. Wiki software is a type of collaborative software that runs a wiki system. A wiki is a medium which can be edited by anyone with access to it, and provides an easy method for linking from one page to another. Wikis are typically collaborative websites though there are now also single-user offline implementations. The wiki software allows web pages to be created and edited It is usually implemented as a server-side script that runs on one or more web servers, with the content generally stored in a relational database management system although some implementations use the server’s file system instead.
The PhpWiki software’s first version was released in December 1999 by Steve Wainstead. This was the first Wiki written in PHP and was publicly released. The first version ran under PHP 3.x and ran on DBM files only. It was in early 2000 that Arno Hollosi contributed a second database library to run PhpWiki on MySQL. Henceforth; the features and other enhancements were added thereby increasing its functionality which included templating system, color diffs, rewrites of the rendering engine and much more. The next major contributor was Jeff Dairiki. Today, its primary developers include Reini Urban, Carsten Klapp, and Joel Uckerman and PhpWiki is actively maintained and developed.

A WikiWikiWeb is a web site where anyone can edit the pages through an HTML form. The linking is automatically done on the server side and all pages are stored in a database. Although this may sound to be a breeze; wiki is a very unique way to collaborate on the Web.
In essence; A WikiWikiWeb is a site where everyone can collaborate on the content. The most well-known and widely used Wiki is the Portland Pattern Repository at http://c2.com/cgi-bin/wiki?WikiWikiWeb. “Wiki wiki” comes from the Hawaiian word and it means “quick”. This is because it is meant to be rather fast and equally easy to edit the content. Using Wiki is fairly uncomplicated and requires the following knowledge:
1. To edit any page click on the Edit Text link at the bottom of the page. It is advisable to read the source code of this page.
2. Get italics by surrounding words with two single quotes on either side
3. Get bold text by using two underscores on either side.
4. Get bold italics by using both.
5. Get bullets by using an asterisk * at the start of the line.
6. To have plain monospaced font, indent with a space
7. To create hyperlinks; capitalize the words and string them together.
8. To link to pages outside the Wiki, the user can just type in the URL and Wiki will link it for you
9. To put images in, just provide the hyperlink in brackets like this: [http://www.yourhost.yourdomain/images/picture.png]. Image URLs not in brackets will just appear as hyperlinks to the image
10. In order to add new pages to Wiki; compose an appropriate title, capitalize all the words and string all the words together. Wiki automatically recognizes it as a hyperlink. Alternatively, the words can be put in square brackets.
11. Then, click the question mark at the end of the new hyperlink and Wiki will give a window for making the new page.
The Wiki does not support HTML tags and is especially designed to be as user friendly and simple as possible. The “recent changes’ link lets you view any recent changes that have been made.
Installation process of PhpWiki is fairly simple and straightforward. However, a few configuration changes need to be made for enhancing performance and permanence. PhpWiki runs on a relational database like MySQL, mSQL or Postgresql.
