Privately held dedicated hosting company, The Planet, recently reduced list pricing on its two server backup products, to $1 per GB, down from $2.

The Network Backup product is now priced at 50 cents per GB, down from $1. The price reduction follows a recent upgrade to the company’s managed storage infrastructure, which offers customers additional storage space and enhanced performance.

Rob Walters, general manager of storage and data protection at The Planet noted, ”Storage and backup are increasingly critical for small- and medium-sized companies, since data loss can actually drive a company out of business. Now any organization can protect data - which can literally mean the difference between success and failure - for as little as $5 per month. At this affordable rate, there’s no excuse to leave critical data unprotected.”

EVault Backup features a comprehensive, intuitive interface, with rich backup functionality from data-protection industry leader EVault. The Planet’s Network Backup provides archiving space available directly through customer applications and tools, and it features standard protocols for ease of access. Both solutions are available in 10GB to 80GB or larger capacities for mission-critical environments. Through Sep. 30, 2008, new orders of EVault Backup and Network Backup are free for the first 90 days.

In mid-August, The Planet participated in the 2008 Affiliate Summit East, held at the Boston Seaport Hotel, showcasing its partner program during the Affiliate Meet Market.

James P. Treuting, Vice President of sales and operations at The Planet noted, ”At the request of our customers, we introduced our affiliate program seven months ago. The Planet affiliate program provides a 100 percent commission to registered affiliates who refer new customers to the company. The one-time commission, based on the referred customer’s total monthly recurring order value, is paid to affiliates 45 days after a new order is placed. There is no cap on the size of the order or the resulting commission paid.

The Affiliate Summit, held several times a year, offers an educational showcase for affiliates, vendors and merchants. The conference agenda includes sessions on affiliate marketing strategies, trends and best practices.
