I enjoy reading all of your posts on various subjects, I am new to the forum and I am not finding the answers to some of the questions I have on how a unified hosting solution works from ordering to checkout.
I recently purchased a dedicated server that is running Windows 2008 Server Web Edition. I have two concise goals with the purchase of this server.
1: I would like to host gaming servers for personal use and for others to use, additionally after I design a web site I would like to lease servers to other individuals with web space, FTP etc, to offset my cost this will happen down the road I am absorbing the costs initially.
2: I would like to host my web server from the same machine, I do realize this is not recommended based on forum posting, however I will have adequate cpu and ram to handle this task and I will also be under subscribing services always as a best practice.
Those are my goals, I am foggy on a few different things, here goes. I know I need a control panel for the game server portion of the server; I was looking into TcAdmin after reading the posts in these forums.
I also I think need a control panel for the managing of web space, Ftp DNS etc, I believe their are two choices for this task, Plesk and Cpanel based on the censuses in the forum posts I have read.
Once I have these software packages selected assuming they are correct I am very confused on how the billing works for a web site, I am still researching this, for example Plesk has a billing option that you can add to the Plesk panel.
Does this automate billing for the services selected, meaning when a user comes to the web site that I have designed and selects their packages, they go to check out and enter their credit card information, or PayPal etc.
Does the software package take care of the backend transmission of the authentication to a servet to authenticate or deny the transaction? How does this billing aspect work? how do you get paid as a entrepreneur?
I believe these are the key points and I am sure your responses will clear things up for me, I was extremely happy to find a site with so much experience and expertise on these subjects.
