Web Hosting : Hosting Reseller could steal your data & passwords ?

Hostgator and Bluehost are our best webhosts and godaddy.com is the best domain registrar.

This web hosting thread started by denis_sianto on 03 December 2008

I recently bought a domain, and opt to pay “reseller hosting” service (my friend is the hosting reseller) because it’s much cheaper than a dedicated server hosting.

Therefore, my friend did all the regular set-ups and prepared for me the initial cpanel passwords.

Next day, I told my friend that I want to change the username of super-user from “admin” to “administrator”. I knew that users like me couldn’t change it myself from the cpanel. Therefore, in a minutes he did changed my login, and he changed my basic passwords too.

Knowing that he could change this password stuff, I asked him, if he could change and view all my current cpanel passwords, or email passwords, including reading the data in it as he wish. AND HE WOULD JUST SAY ‘CALM DOWN, JUST TRUST ME’.

Does anyone expert on this web hosting field knows if my friend could really change my passwords (cpanel, email) and possibly read my emails and all my data stored inside my hosting space as he wish ? (If he could do it, I must change my hosting service to another company, as I don’t want my own friend to spy on my business activity)
