Web Hosting : is this a normal speed for a VPS?

I’m using liquidweb as my VPS and I’m trying to download a 50 MB EXE file from my website.

The speed is 200-225 KB/sec which I find quite slow. I’ve tried doing it on different days and I get the same speed. I used to get 300 KB+ off my old SHARED hosting account. What’s the problem? Is there anything I can do to speed this up or is it liquidweb’s setting?

Also I’ve been doing tracert’s on my ip address and it takes a few more hops than my old SHARED hosting account. not sure what’s going on
