I know this has be discussed in various flavors here and otherwise, but wanted to share my experience with NameCheap and Google. I had two domains I needed to register, both of them privately.

The first one I registered with Google for $10 being promised whois privacy. Of course right after I register, whois is showing all my details in their full glory. Got it fixed with their support within 48 hours (not bad for Google who does a lot to make it very difficult to contact them.)

Then I went to namecheap having seen good feedback on them on wht. I confirmed through their chat if I am going to get privacy with *.us, check. I made sure my shopping cart had WhoisGuard, check. I registered. How follish of me not to dig deeper into it and find out that .us prohibits private registration, so again my details are showing in full glory. Name cheap really should make a point of telling you in the shopping cart that WhoisGuard you are getting for free is not for the domain your registering and will be useless any way.
