Web Hosting : Review of PayQuake

Over the past few years, I’ve seen A LOT of folks searching these forums for information on merchant accounts. For the past several years, our company’s ability to accept credit cards was solely through PayPal.

That all changed about two weeks ago when we signed up for service with PayQuake. Like many, we were PayQuake customers about five years ago when they had the “Pay for Play” plan. We cancelled our services when that plan came to an end. This wasn’t that big of a deal as the majority of our customers were paying by check.

Things are much different in 2008! Accepting credit cards is crucial and the ability to accept credit cards internally was an important factor in choosing PayQuake over other merchant options like 2Checkout.

The signup process was a breeze. The entire process was completed online in about 10 minutes. Maybe it was because we were a previous customer but there was no need to fax in any documentation.

* Easy to use online gateway
* Affordable rates for companies that don’t anticipate ringing up a lot of credit card transactions

Cons

* It’s quite difficult to get a hold of a live person over the phone. They offer 24×7 service & support but nine times out of ten, my call was routed to voicemail.
* The actual signup process was simple. However, it took PayQuake about two weeks to get the login information into my hands. This entire process took much longer than the 24-48 hour activation time they advertise on their website
* Integration in WHMCS has been a challenge. I’m still trying to get it to work properly.

We’re pretty early in the game to give a solid recommendation. However, if you’re looking for a low-cost merchant solution, PayQuake may be for you. You just need to stay on top of ‘em.
