Web Hosting : Some questions before I buy hosting service

Hostgator and Bluehost are our best webhosts and godaddy.com is the best domain registrar.

After reading a lot of posts the last 3 days,
I am about to buy service with MediaLayer hosting.
Yet i havn’t figured out one thing.
Is there a difference between disk space and db space?
My website is going to use Joomla CMS and a very big db with phpBB.
At the beginning i don’t need much bet later i’ll probably expand.

I see MediaLayer doesn’t over sell, yet their deal is for 500 MB.
Will it be enough for starting and just testing how things will work?

If my website will be as i expect, there will be about 10,000 – 15,000 registered users using mainly a forum.

Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas?

Another question is, why would one need a dedicated IP?
Will I need it for Joomla and phpBB?
