I had a seriously bad experience with fsckvps.

I ordered some VPS nodes for my team of software developers to use. It required me to put in an initial password, so I put in my usual password. It then proceeded to display that password, for all to see, on the account maintenance page. Understand that this page is the page that many people in my company need to access to administer the account. It also mailed out my password, in plaintext, to the office manager who had paid for the account with the company credit card.

I quickly went to the control panel to change my password, which worked fine – except it continued to display my original password, in plaintext, on the account maintenance page. Changing the password multiple times via the control panel had no effect – my sensitive password was still being displayed.

So then I filed a trouble ticket asking them to fix the problem. The support guy told me that it was my fault and that he wasn’t going to do anything about it. When I complained further, they responded by deleting my account.

So in summary, fsckvps will:

* cavalierly distribute your password to people other than you.

* if you complain, they will summarily close your account.

I’m actually glad I had a problem on the first day. It’s a lot easier to find a new provider now, than if I’d actually taken hours and hours to set up those VPSs before they summarily deleted them.
